Welcome to Harrogate Pythons Minis

Harrogate Pythons Minis is about giving young people the opportunity to discover rugby, get active, make friends and become part of a fantastic local club community.

Launching in 2026, Harrogate Hatchlings is the new team in our junior section (Pythons Minis) of our established rugby club, created to give children in Harrogate and the surrounding area a fun, safe and welcoming introduction to the game.

Whether your child has played rugby before or has never picked up a rugby ball, everyone is welcome.

Rugby is about more than the game

At Harrogate Pythons Minis, developing rugby skills is only part of what we want young people to gain from being involved.

Our approach is built around the RFU's core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.

These values will run through everything we do.

Teamwork – learning to work together, support teammates and understand that everyone has a part to play.
Respect – showing respect for teammates, coaches, opponents, officials and ourselves.
Enjoyment – making sure rugby is fun! We want children to look forward to training, enjoy being active and develop a lifelong love of the game.
Discipline – learning to listen, follow the rules, develop good habits and take responsibility for our actions.
Sportsmanship – learning how to compete in the right way, celebrating success while showing fairness and respect whatever the result.

For us, these aren't simply rugby values. They're qualities that can help young people build confidence, resilience, friendships and important skills for life.

A place to play, learn and belong

Our ambition is to create a mini’s section where children feel comfortable being themselves and where ability is never a barrier to getting involved.

Sessions will focus on fun, participation and development, allowing children to learn at their own pace in a positive and encouraging environment.

Through rugby, we want our minis to:

Get active and enjoy being outdoors
Build confidence and resilience
Develop teamwork and communication
Make new friends
Learn and develop rugby skills
Understand the importance of respect and sportsmanship
Feel part of their local club and community

Growing the next generation

Our club already has an established senior section and a strong sense of community. Harrogate Hatchlings represents an exciting new chapter, our first dedicated junior section.

We're hoping to welcome lots of young players in our first year, creating a strong foundation from which the junior section can continue to grow.

But our measure of success won't simply be how many games we win.

It will be seeing children enjoying rugby, developing in confidence, making friendships and wanting to come back week after week.
